Wolfhound Cup poster - Final v.2 (grey)_620x877On Saturday July 25th the Winston-Salem Wolfhounds GAA club will host our first tournament at the Winston-Salem State University Intramural Soccer field. We are very excited to be hosting our first Gaelic Football tournament in Winston-Salem. The will be teams from Raleigh & Charlotte also attending, so you will be watching some of the best Gaelic Footballers in North Carolina playing on the day.

  • The Field Location: Look for the word “Track” (Behind #31)

  • Bathroom Location: Look for the “C.E. Gaines Center and Whitaker Gymnasium” (#7)

What’s available at the field?

  • There will be table setup that will be selling light refreshments, snacks & baked goods to get you through the hot day of watching Gaelic Football
  • There are bathroom facilities available for everyone. Please see ‘Bathroom Location’ above under the ‘Field Details’ section
  • There will be trashcans available at the field.
  • We will have medical people available in case of minor medical emergencies. 911 will be called for any serious medical needs.
  • ‘Food & Drink’ tickets – these will cost $10 and you can use these to get two draft beers or soft drinks AND Food at Foothills during the after-party. This is a special offer just for the Wolfhound Cup.
    • You can purchase ‘Food&Drink’ tickets from the ‘Refreshment Tent’

What’s NOT available at the field?

  • There will be no water tap at the field so you will need to bring your own water OR purchase refreshments from the refreshment tent
  • There is little to no shelter around the field and even though our team will have multiple tents that we may be able to provide to supporters we would strongly advise bringing your own tents or hats and/or sunscreen, etc to protect yourselves from the NC sun
  • There is not seating available. There is small hillside you can sit on but we would still advise people to bring their own seats if required.
  • Alcohol – There will be NO ALCOHOL allowed on the WSSU campus. It is an alcohol free campus and this rule must be obeyed.

General schedule for the day*

  • 11.30am:  Game 1 – Winston-Salem Wolfhounds v Charlotte B
  • 1.00pm:    Game 2 – Raleigh B v Charlotte B
  • 2-2.45pm: Photos with Irish Wolfhounds from the “Irish Wolfhound Association of the Mid South”
  • 3.10pm:   Game 3 – Winston-Salem Wolfhounds V Raleigh B
  • 4.00pm: Closing Ceremony (No trophies, just THANK YOUs)

After-Party

  • There will be an after-party held at the new Foothills Tasting Room on 3800 Kimwell Dr. Winston-Salem, NC 27103 from 4.30 to Close
    • The bar is about 12-15 minutes from the field
    • Closing time is technically 8pm on Saturdays BUT Foothills has agreed to stay open longer to accommodate the club
  • We will be selling ‘Food & Drink’ tickets at the game. These tickets will cost $10 for three tickets and you will be able to get two draft beers (or soft drinks) and food
    • The food will consists of Hamburgers, Vegetarian Burgers, hot-dogs, sides & chips
      • E.g. you can get one burger OR two hot-dogs PLUS one side PLUS chips
  • If you don’t purchase the ‘Food & Drink’ tickets you can still get food at Foothills Tasting Room…please ask a member of the club how you can do this on the day.
  • The Irish Wolfhounds will be coming back with their owners to hang out at Foothills Tasting Room so if you missed them at the field or just want to see them again, you will be able to catch them there.
