Week 1 of 4 – 5 Ways to Improve Brain Health
Alzheimer’s has the potential to affect us all and as the date of October 27th is quickly approaching I wanted to start off our month of Alzheimer’s awareness with 5 Ways to Improve Brain Health
Your lifestyle has a significant impact on your brain health. Keep your brain in shape with these tips:
- Exercise 30 minutes every day. Physical exercise improves blood flow and memory. People who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
- Maintain a healthy diet. Choose lean meats, leafy greens, nuts and foods rich in antioxidants – like blueberries and raspberries. Avoid foods high in saturated fats, which have been linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
- Take time to relax. Schedule regular periods of relaxation into your week. Excess stress hormones can be harmful to the brain.
- Be social. Studies show that regular interaction with friends and family helps maintain a healthy brain.
- Work on your mental fitness.Take a class. Stimulate your brain with crossword puzzles, chess or online games. Try new hobby or skill, like studying a new language or trying your hand at photography.
